Naples opens like an amphitheater on the sea, surrounded by Mount Vesuvius, the coastal mountains, and its surrounding islands. The city, placed at the center of the Mediterranean Sea and perennially sunny, is the capital of the Campania Region, and it is considered the cultural capital of Southern Italy. Full of life and culture, Naples is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, rich in arts and culture. Founded in the ancient Greco-Roman era, Naples is one of the most ancient cities in Europe, and, thanks to its rich multicultural background due to French, Spanish and Arabian dominations, the city is unique and contains plenty of UNESCO forts, castles, palaces, churches, monasteries, piazzas, galleries and museums to visit. Indeed, the current urban fabric preserves a selection of outstanding elements of its long and eventful history, as expressed in its street pattern, its wealth of historic buildings and parks, the continuation of many of its urban and social functions, its wonderful setting on the Bay of Naples and the continuity of its historical stratification. The nearby areas, including the suggestive Sorrento and Amalfi coasts, as well as Capri, Ischia and Procida islands, are also just as enchanting thanks to their natural wonders and breathtaking views. Finally, it is worth noting that Naples is also the city of pizza and of the most colorful and delicious Italian cuisine.
