Welcome to Campania

Message from the Vice President of the Campania Region, Regional Minister for Transport, Mobility and the Sea

Dear Participants,

It is a great honour and a genuine pleasure to welcome you to Naples and to the Campania Region on the occasion of the 29th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, hosted in Italy for the first time in the history of this prestigious conference.

The choice of venue could not be more meaningful. The Stazione Marittima, overlooking the Gulf of Naples, has for generations been a gateway between our city and the world: a place where people, goods, and ideas have always been on the move. There is no better setting for the world’s leading scientific community devoted to the future of transportation.

Mobility is at the very heart of our regional agenda. Campania is engaged in an ambitious programme of investment in its transport system: the renewal of the regional railway fleet, the extension of the metro network, the transition to electric and low-emission public transport, the modernisation of our ports, and the digitalisation of services for citizens and travellers. In each of these efforts, the technologies discussed at this conference — intelligent, connected, cooperative, and sustainable transportation systems — are not an abstraction: they are the tools with which we intend to improve the daily life of millions of citizens, students, commuters, and visitors.

For this reason, the dialogue between the research community, industry, and public institutions is invaluable to us. The ideas presented in these days in Naples will help shape the policies and infrastructure of tomorrow, in Campania and far beyond.

I also warmly invite you to take some time to discover our region, and I am confident that the renowned hospitality of our land, together with its extraordinary cultural and culinary heritage, will make your stay memorable.

On behalf of the Regional Government of Campania, I extend my best wishes to the organisers, the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society, and all of you for a most successful and inspiring conference.

Welcome to Naples, welcome to Campania!
